Songs and Paintings: Jay Z and Basquiat

Many artists, writers, musicians find inspiration in other forms of art and creativity.

Jay Z has recently bought a Basquiat painting worth 4,5 $. The rapper has long admired the graffiti artist. He has repeatedly included in his songs references to Basquiat and even one of Basquiat’s paintings inspired an entire track. Certainly, the painting, “Charles the First,’’ was the basis for his 2010 song “Most Kingz”.

The own Basquiat was fond of poetry, literature and music.

I recall my attention on Whitney Biennial 2014 and the emphasis made on “multi-faceted” artists!
